Great!!
«What a gem this is! Not on the best seller list nowadays, but this CD is a joy for anyone who discovers it. This live concert took place in 1972 - amazingly the lady is still in very fine voice 30 years later.
Along with her more recent live recordings of "The Concert" and "Timeless", it seems to me that live performance was (and is) a really great medium for Barbra. That interaction with the audience seems to bring out something special.
Every song in this live recording is great. Barbra belts out classic full-voiced renditions of her signature pieces in "Don't rain on my parade", "On a clear day", "My man", and "People". She also squeezes a huge amount of emotion into ballads like "Starting here, starting now" and "Didn't we?". One can only marvel at the skill required to convey such depth of emotion.
Then there are upbeat cute songs like "Sing", "Make your own kind of music", and "Happy days are here again". But my favourite song on the album is "Stoney end" - so punchy and lively.
Her vocal control and technical skill are as inspiring as her artistic interpretation of the songs. And there is some fun in her humorous banter with the audience too. What an entertainer!
If you ever feel a bit depressed, "go" to this concert and you'll be cured. This is 45 minutes of pure pleasure.
I dont know if this was planned, but Barbra has released one live album for every decade she's performed in. Consequently each of those live albums represent a different phase of Barbra the singer(who's gone through many phases). This disc represents Barbra's funky 70's phase, she starts her show with the upbeat Sing, rather than the slower Any Place I Hang My Hat is Home, which opened most of her 60's concerts. While most of the songs ARE from the 60's, they're performed with a 70's twist: Dont Rain on my Parade is faster and hipper, Starting Here Starting Now turns into an almost r+b like torch song, Happy Days are Here Again is song joyously, without the irony of her earlier interpretations and People is belter rather than silkily spun. The 70's numbers are both the best and worst tracks on the album. The Sweet Inspiration/Where you Lead medley is a classic example that Barbra wasnt totally out her element with Rock, and Didnt We Almost Make it soars. Unfortunately Stoney End is a boring recreation of the studio version and not really all that compelling. All in all a fabulous live cd»

Bravo!!!
«The Third Album by Barbra Streisand has me believing even more than I did before that this lady has TALENT! Barbra's voice is in excellent form on this CD and it's only too bad that we don't get twenty more songs from her on this CD! I mean that in a positive way. In addition, the quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is very nicely done.
"My Melancholy Baby" shines brighter than silver and gold when Barbra sings this ever so sweetly; and when the full musical arrangement starts this number truly takes flight! Barbra sings this with great sensitivity and that's terrific. Her voice is clear as a bell; and her uncanny sense of timing enhances her performance even further. "Just In Time" features Barbra Streisand's vocals squarely front and center--and that's quite all right with me! The lush musical arrangement never drowns out Barbra as she sings this to perfection--and beyond! Wonderful!
"Taking A Chance On Love" gets the royal treatment from Barbra; she sings this with a slower tempo than I'm used to but it all works very well. "Taking A Chance On Love" really sparkles when Streisand picks this up and makes her own mark on this ballad with some tactful key changes and that slower tempo that sounds great. No wonder this record album sold well when it was originally released all those years ago! In addition, there's also "Bewitched, Bothered, Bewildered;" Barbra throws herself into this ballad to make it even brighter and upbeat than ever before. This love song benefits so much from Streisand's natural vocal talent and "Bewitched, Bothered, Bewildered" has a very pretty musical arrangement.
"As Time Goes By," is, of course, one of the very greatest love songs ever written; and Barbra does great justice to this timeless ballad as she delivers it without a superfluous note. "As Time Goes By" was originally performed by Dooley Wilson in the movie Casablanca; and Dooley would have been proud of Barbra's rendition!
"It Had To Be You" gets a very sensitive treatment from Streisand who never misses a beat; and the strings are used to great advantage. The soft piano arrangement rounds out the melody quite nicely as the strings carry the bulk of the melody. Listen also for "Make Believe;" this ballad is quite sweet and Barbra performs this with panache.
The CD also ends well with Barbra Streisand performing "I Had Myself A True Love." This final number again showcases Barbra's vocal talents and her delivery of "I Had Myself A True Love" impresses me greatly.
Barbra Streisand fans will naturally want this album in their collections.Simple orchestrations and Barbra's voice combine to form the best music on earth! Except for "Draw Me a Circle", I can listen to every song on this album every day and not get bored. My favorites are "Just in Time" (this song was not a "ballad" on Broadway, but the slow tempo and Leonard Bernstein intro are wonderful), "Never Will I Marry" (this WAS a ballad on Broadway, but Barbra's energy and raw irony make this version GREAT), and, of course "Bewitched". This Rodgers & Hart classic has never sounded better! Barbra takes all these classic songs and sings them in such a way that the listener "experiences" the emotion of the lyrics.»

Barbra is magnifique!!
«"Je M'Appelle Barbra" is Streisand's eighth studio record which came out in October, 1966. Barbra sings most of the album in french making this somewhat of a concept album. The record shot all the way to #5 on the Billboard Charts and would be her last Top 10 album for five years. The release would finally go Gold in 2002.
Highlights here include "Free Again", "Autumn Leaves", "Le Mur", "Ma Premiere Chanson" (Barbra's first song where she received songwriting credit), and the beautiful "Speak to Me of Love".
The album art is simply gorgeous and the picture of Miss Streisand was taken by famed photographer Richard Avedon.
The artistry of Barbra Streisand continues to amaze. This 1966 recording sounds fresh and brilliant--as if it were recorded yesterday. I bought the LP years ago, but wanted the CD to share with a "refresher" French class I've been taking.
One of the tracks, "Le Mur" particularly impressed my teacher (who is a native Parisienne) because of Barbra's flawless pronunciation, but also because this song was originally written for Edith Piaf, who never got to sing it. When the composer heard that Barbra was recording an album of French songs, he waited and asked her to record it first--quite an honor. The English version ("I've Been Here") is also on the CD, so if you don't speak French, you can hear the song in English. With "Le Mur" it sounds a bit as though Barbra is channeling Piaf--my teacher was amazed.
Most of the songs are actually sung in English; a couple are performed half in French, half in English.
"Ma Premiere Chanson" (My First Song) was composed by Streisand herself, with lyrics by her friend Eddy Marnay.
Barbra commented on her 2006 tour that this "record" has finally "gone gold," after 40 years! Quality endures. Enjoy.»

Amazing!!!(:
«This album was released in 1981, right on the heels of the great "Guilty", though only one song from that album is on here, "The Love Inside". Look to her 1989 A COLLECTION...GREATEST HITS AND MORE for songs from that album.
This collection starts out with the best song, "Memory" from CATS. Barbra sings this with breath-taking purity and emotion while an orchestra plays in the background. Definitely the best song on here.
"You Don't Bring Me Flowers", the first of four number one hits featured on here, still stirs the soul after 23 years out and Neil Diamond and Barbara blend together so well. "My Heart Belongs To Me", "Lost Inside Of You" and the beautiful "Evergreen", still impress the ears. "New York State Of Mind" and "No More Tears" are OK, not the best.
The two final tracks are tied with "Memory" as the best songs on the album. "The Love Inside" never ceases to send chills down the spine with it's aria-like feel and Barbara's soulful vocals. "The Way We Were", though grossly overplayed, is still a gorgeous song, filled with longing and reflection.»
